The former leader of the Mexican Sinaloa cartel, Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman (60), receives a psychological examination next week, reports media in the United States. Chapo is detained in New York awaiting his trial, which is likely to start in April in Brooklyn next year.
The investigation relates to the assertion of his lawyer that Guzman is psychologically seriously suffering under his detention circumstances. He is kept in a small cold cell, without window, in complete isolation. He would suffer from hallucinations, paranoia, depression and memory loss.
14 Billion Dollars
El Chapo was extradited from Mexico to the US in January 2017. He stands in court on 17 different counts of on drug trafficking, murder, and leading a criminal organization between 1989 and 2014. The entire case counts over 90,000 pages. El Chapo would have made $14 billion dollars in the United States.
Soon statements of a series of crown witnesses will be added to the case file. It is not yet known who these are and what the statements contain. This is to ensure the safety of these people, for now …
