Child Pornography

The court in Brabant, The Netherlands sentenced a 37-year-old man to an extra prison sentence of six months. The man was caught collecting child pornography on his cell. This all while the man was already sentenced to prison for producing and spreading child pornography.

Guilty

In 2016 police found a computer containing 307 images of child pornography to which the man had access in the prison of Vught. This while in 2014 he had already received a 7-year prison sentence and detention under hospital orders, for the producing and gathering of child pornography. The court believed that the man had to be guilty of collecting the images because, in that same year, he had downloaded software that allowed him to look up and view such pictures.

Dehumanizing

The prosecutor wanted to see the man behind prison walls for an extra year. The court decided to sentence him to an extra six months. In determining the punishment, the court kept in mind that the man was already guilty of these facts while being in jail. The court also claims that the man, by downloading these photographs, is guilty of maintaining a system in which people commit ‘dehumanizing acts with young children’.

Not treated

The court also looked at the man’s psyche when sentencing. He suffers from Asperger’s syndrome, has very different sexual fantasies, and a pedophile disorder. Therefore, the court considers him to be less accountable. The man has not yet been treated for the disorders that were found on him in his previous conviction.

This isn’t the first time police in the Netherlands find child pornography in prison cells. You can read more about this topic by clicking here.
