Video footage shows how the victim gets placed in a black BMW with his hands tied by three masked men wearing SWAT police uniforms. The men then drove away in a Mercedes van, the black BMW and the Mercedes belonging to the victim. Police found the Mercedes van after half an hour empty on a carpool location in Nunspeet. The same evening, the BMW was found burnt out in Overlangel and on Monday they found the Mercedes of the victim in Putten. The 53-year-old victim missing for hours until he arrived at his house at around 21:00. Maurice told the police his kidnappers dropped him at a remote location in Drunen. The victim went home after his release by public transport. He told he was threatened by his kidnappers and wanted them arrested.
The police did house searches earlier this week on eight different locations. The arrested suspects are two men of 29 and 50 from Breda, a 59-year-old man from Rotterdam, a 67-year-old man from Alphen and two men aged 30 and 36 from Tilburg. The raids were carried out in seven homes in Breda, Tilburg, Oss, Rotterdam, Alphen, and one warehouse was searched in the city of Oosterhout. During the raids police found several items linked to the abduction, including two firearms.
The investigation showed that the plan was not only to extort Maurits but also a 48-year-old man from Ridderkerk with whom Ronald Maurice did business. The extortions began in January and the two men reported this both to the police. At this point the suspects came into the picture. The police is still investigating what has been everyone’s role exactly in the kidnapping and attempted extortion. Spokesman of the police didn’t rule out that there could be more arrests.
All suspects are imprisoned for further interrogation and investigation and will brought before the magistrate tomorrow.
