During a robbery in the luxurious Ritz Hotel on the Place Vendôme in the center of Paris, at least 4.5 million euros worth of jewellery and other valuables were stolen yesterday evening. Around 6.30 pm five men stormed into the hall of the hotel. They started striking the display cases with axes in which the valuables were being displayed.
Three suspects were soon arrested, but two others escaped according to French media. Nobody was injured. The jewellery is still missing. One source told French media that the thieves had firearms. Sky News claims to have spoken with witnesses who stated to have heard at least ten shots.
The thieves entered the hotel through a side entrance, the Rue Cambon. In the central hall of the five-star hotel, several luxury shops are located, including jewellery store Reza, the target of the thieves.
The Ritz in Paris is located in the oldest part of Paris’s, on the Place Vendôme and is surrounded by expensive shops and the French Ministry of Justice. After previous robberies on expensive stores, the security, in the most expensive shopping district in Paris, was improved. unfortunately, it seems that the security still isn’t good enough.
